The Job Lane House, acquired by the town of Bedford
in 1973, has been very
appropriately restored by Town volunteer groups, but, aside from
somewhat fortuitous
acquisition of a small eclectic collection of loaned pieces, has
never been systematically
furnished with authentic period antiques. As a means
of correcting this deficiency, an ad hoc Furnishings Committee was
established in 1999 and its first activities involved contacting a
number of professional
consultants for advice about how to proceed with its assigned
acquisition program. The need for establishing a
dedicated Furnishings Fund became apparent in 2001
when the opportunity to purchase a Federal (1820) Sheraton style
arched canopy bed was
suddenly presented to the Committee which had no specific financial
resources for this
purpose. A fund-raising program was thus subsequently authorized by
the Board of
Directors to establish the Fund to be used specifically to take
advantage of sudden
opportunities to purchase appropriate period furnishings at the most
favorable prices. Since its inception, the Fund has
provided resources for the purchase, among others,
of three major pieces: the above-mentioned Sheraton canopy bed, an
18th century. tavern
table, and, most recently, an 1830 Sheraton style chest to
compliment the canopy bed. Contributions to this Fund
are most welcome as are donations of authentic antique
furnishings considered by the Committee to be appropriate for the
periods represented by
the architecture of the house. Contact us at
